Systemic infection due to the fungus Geotrichum canditum (capitatum/clavatum/fici) exclusively in immunocompromised individuals; saprophytic yeast like fungi with portal of entry by soil into respiratory or digestive tract; treatment is with Amphotericin B AND flucytosine or itraconazole; mortality 75%; also in diabetics as oral vaginal or skin infection then nizoral is effective; coarse true hyphae are seen in tissue and culture
